What Is the Cost of Uncertainty for SMEs? | Companies in Transformation

Our Partner Joana Carvalho took part in the videocast “Empresas em Transformação”, an initiative by Observador, in partnership with novobanco Empresas.

The relationship between sustainability and sustainable finance has long been at the core of her approach to supporting companies. Today, the challenge increasingly lies in making that relationship tangible in day-to-day management: understanding risks, anticipating them, and integrating them into decision-making.

In a context where risk directly influences financing conditions, a lack of knowledge or structured information can translate into higher costs for companies. The lower an organisation’s ability to identify, assess and demonstrate how ESG risks are being managed, the greater the perceived risk may be from the perspective of financiers, with a corresponding impact on access to capital and financing conditions.

Joana’s contribution reinforces a conviction shared by SFgo: sustainability should not be treated as a separate dimension from financial management, but rather as an integral part of strategy, risk management and an organisation’s ability to access financing.
